Essential benefits for Mum & Baby

During pregnancy, a mother's nutrient needs increase to support her baby's growth and development. Key nutrients like folate, iron, vitamin d and others become even more essential, helping to nourish both mum and baby while supporting maternal well-being.

Why take a multivitamin?

Professor Mark Johnson, Founder of Nurture and leading Obstetrician & Gynaecologist on supplementation in pregnancy:

“Prenatal vitamins help fill nutritional gaps and with the increased demands of pregnancy, a multivitamin provides that extra layer of support for both mother and baby.

Nurture’s multivitamin, specifically, offers a unique blend of bioavailable nutrients, ensuring superior absorption and gentle digestion, with natural forms of iron and folate for maximum benefit.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What safety standards do your products adhere to?

Our supplements and testing kits comply with MHRA standards, CE-marking, and ISO 13485 certifications, ensuring top-tier safety for pregnant women.

What branded ingredients are you using and why?

We source high-quality ingredients from leading, trusted providers to ensure our supplements deliver maximum efficacy:

  • Aquamin Marine CalciumSourced from mineral-rich red marine algae. It’s gentle on the stomach and highly bioavailable, with clinical trials to reassure.

  • Ferrochel® Iron: Known for its superior bioavailability, Ferrochel is a chelated form of iron that is gentle on the stomach and supports oxygen delivery to the baby.

  • Albion® Zinc, Manganese, and CopperAlbion’s chelated minerals are recognized for their enhanced absorption, critical for cellular growth, immune function, and fetal organ development.

Can I open the capsules and mix them into food or drinks?

Yes — you can open the capsules and mix the contents into cold or room-temperature foods such as yoghurt or smoothies.

To protect the nutrients, avoid adding the contents to hot food or drinks, as heat can reduce their effectiveness. For best results, consume straight away after mixing.

If you’re sensitive to swallowing capsules, this can be a helpful alternative, while still ensuring you receive the full nutritional benefit.

What is a safe dose for Vitamin D?

Daily intakes of up to 4,000 IU (100 µg) are generally safe in pregnancy.

While doses of 400iu (10ug) are often included in public guidelines, this is often inadequate for pregnancy, especially as deficiency is common.

Therefore, studies show higher amounts of 2000 - 4000iu are safe and often needed to achieve sufficient blood levels, especially in women with deficiency.

What is a safe dose for Folate?

Guidelines recommend 400µg per day before and during early pregnancy.

Is it a problem if some nutrients are over 100% NRV?

No, this is often intentional and safe. During pregnancy, requirements for certain nutrients increase, and standard NRVs do not always reflect optimal pregnancy needs. Some nutrients are therefore included above 100% to help ensure adequate intake, particularly where absorption varies, dietary intake is inconsistent, or requirements are higher. All levels used in prenatal supplements are set within established safe limits.

It’s also worth noting, NRVs are set well below the upper safe limits. This means that consuming more than 100% of the NRV is typically still well within safe, tolerable levels.

Why is Vitamin D shown as 1000% NRV?

The NRV for vitamin D is based on preventing deficiency in the general adult population, rather than optimising levels during pregnancy. Many women in the UK have low vitamin D levels, especially during autumn and winter. A higher amount helps support immune function, bone health for mother and baby, and maintaining healthy vitamin D status throughout pregnancy, while remaining within recognised safe intake levels.

Why is folate 200% NRV?

Folate requirements increase significantly during pregnancy as it supports normal foetal development. The standard NRV is lower than the amount commonly recommended in pregnancy guidelines, so providing 400µg helps ensure women meet recommended intake even if dietary intake varie

Should every nutrient aim for 100% NRV?

Not necessarily. Nutrients are included at different levels depending on how much is typically obtained from food, how well the body absorbs the nutrient, and how requirements change during pregnancy. Some nutrients are intentionally below 100% because diet usually provides the remainder, while others are higher to help ensure adequate intake.
