EBCOG recommends omega-3 supplementation to reduce risk of preterm birth

The European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG) has issued a position statement highlighting the role of omega-3 fatty acids in reducing the risk of preterm and early preterm births. EJOG+1EJOG+1

The statement emphasises that increased consumption of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), either through diet or supplementation, is associated with an 11% reduction in early preterm births and a 42% reduction in late preterm births. EJOG

EBCOG recommends that pregnant women, especially those at risk of preterm delivery, consider omega-3 supplementation as part of their prenatal care to support optimal pregnancy outcomes.
