Australia Introduces New Guidelines to Help Lower Risk of Premature Birth

16 Apr 2025

New Pregnancy Care Guidelines in Australia aim to reduce premature birth

In a move to support healthier pregnancies, the Australian government has released updated recommendations encouraging omega-3 supplementation for expectant mothers with low levels of this essential fatty acid.

These guidelines are grounded in recent scientific evidence and reflect a comprehensive evaluation of how omega-3 intake—particularly DHA—can influence pregnancy length and reduce the likelihood of early delivery.

"There is high certainty evidence that rates of preterm birth and early preterm birth are lower in women receiving omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids compared with no omega-3"
