About our products & ingredients
What makes Nurture different from other prenatal supplement brands?
Nurture offers tailored supplement plans designed specifically for pregnancy, including at-home blood tests to track key nutrients like Vitamin D and Omega-3. This unique approach ensures both you and your baby receive the right nutrients at the right time.
What products do you offer for pregnancy support?
We offer three core products:
- NurtureMulti: A prenatal multivitamin with 11 essential nutrients, including Iron, Vitamin D3, and Folate.

- NurtureKit: An innovative, at-home blood testing kit designed to support maternal health. Offering convenience, accuracy, and personalised insights, NurtureKit® empowers you to monitor crucial nutrient levels from the comfort of your home.
How do the supplements support prenatal health?
Nurture products support both maternal and fetal health by providing key nutrients that contribute to healthy brain development and help support optimal pregnancy outcomes, while reducing the risk of nutrient deficiencies.
When should I take each product?
- NurtureMulti: Take 1 capsule with a meal and water.
- NurtureOmega: Take 2 soft gels with a meal and water..
Where are Nurture supplements manufactured?
- NurtureMulti & NurtureOmega: Manufactured in the UK under strict production standards.
What safety standards do your products adhere to?
Our supplements and testing kits comply with MHRA standards, CE-marking, and ISO 13485 certifications, ensuring top-tier safety for pregnant women.
What are the branded ingredient providers you use, and why?
We source high-quality ingredients from leading, trusted providers to ensure our supplements deliver maximum efficacy.
- Ferrochel® Iron: Known for its superior bioavailability, Ferrochel is a chelated form of iron that is gentle on the stomach and supports oxygen delivery to the baby.
- Albion® Zinc, Manganese, and Copper: Albion’s chelated minerals are recognized for their enhanced absorption, critical for cellular growth, immune function, and fetal organ development.
Should I consult my doctor before taking these supplements?
Yes, it’s always advisable to consult with your healthcare provider, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking other medications.
Can these supplements be used throughout the entirety of pregnancy and postpartum period?
Yes, Nurture supplements are designed for both pregnancy and postpartum. We recommend continuing supplementation during breastfeeding to support maternal health and infant development. Starting supplementation before conception is also beneficial for preparing your body for pregnancy.
What safety standards do your products adhere to?
Our supplements and testing kits comply with MHRA standards, CE-marking, and ISO 13485 certifications, ensuring top-tier safety for pregnant women.
Are Nurture supplements organic or vegan?
Are the products free from common allergens (e.g., gluten, dairy, nuts)?
Can I open the capsules and mix them into food or drinks?
Yes — you can open the capsules and mix the contents into cold or room-temperature foods such as yoghurt or smoothies.
To protect the nutrients, avoid adding the contents to hot food or drinks, as heat can reduce their effectiveness. For best results, consume straight away after mixing.
If you’re sensitive to swallowing capsules, this can be a helpful alternative, while still ensuring you receive the full nutritional benefit.
Supplement Safety & Dosage Guidance
How do I know what DHA dose to take?
Your recommended DHA dosage is based on your current blood level. By testing your DHA with the free NurtureKit provided in month one of your subscription, we can suggest a dosage tailored to help maintain or improve your levels, supporting a healthy pregnancy.
If you choose not to take the blood test, both 600mg and 900mg of DHA are considered safe and appropriate during pregnancy. These doses are designed to safely support maternal DHA intake, although testing allows us to guide you more precisely based on your individual needs.
What is a safe DHA dose in pregnancy?
Clinical studies show that daily intakes of up to 1,000 mg of DHA are considered safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women, with no links to safety concerns - and women taking this higher dosage actually often reduced risks of certain complications and had fewer adverse effects.
What is the recommended DHA intake for pregnancy?
Many guidelines suggest a minimum of 200–300 mg of DHA per day during pregnancy. However, clinical studies indicate that a daily intake of 600–1,000 mg can significantly reduce the risk of preterm birth. This means the 200–300 mg dose should be considered a baseline rather than an optimal target. Women with low dietary intake, low blood DHA levels, or higher risk of pregnancy complications may particularly benefit from taking 600–1,000 mg daily.
What are the recommended DHA levels?
While exact targets vary slightly, most experts suggest aiming for a DHA level that supports optimal maternal and fetal health, which is generally >4–5% of total red blood cell fatty acids. Testing lets us see where you are and whether you need adjustments.
What is a safe dose for Vitamin D?
Daily intakes of up to 4,000 IU (100 µg) are generally safe in pregnancy.
While doses of 400iu (10ug) are often included in public guidelines, this is often inadequate for pregnancy, especially as deficiency is common. Therefore, studies show higher amounts of 2000 - 4000iu are safe and often needed to achieve sufficient blood levels, especially in women with deficiency.
Can I take too many nutrients?
Exceeding the safe intake of any nutrient is uncommon when using supplements as directed, but taking high doses or combining multiple different supplement products could risk going over upper limits and may cause side effects. Nurture’s recommendations are always within evidence-based safety limits. It’s always best to avoid stacking up supplements and always checking labels carefully
What is a safe dose for Folate?
Guidelines recommend 400µg per day before and during early pregnancy.
What if my DHA & Vitamin D levels are already sufficient?
If your blood test shows your levels are adequate, your dosage may be lower to maintain healthy levels, avoiding unnecessary supplementation.
What does NRV% mean?
NRV stands for Nutrient Reference Value. It shows how much of your daily recommended intake of a vitamin or mineral is provided by one daily dose of your supplement.
For example:
- 100% NRV means the supplement provides the full recommended daily amount.
- 70% NRV means it provides part of your daily needs, with the rest expected to come from your diet.
NRVs are general guidelines designed for the average adult to prevent deficiency, not specifically tailored to individual pregnancy needs
Can I take too much DHA?
Exceeding the safe intake is uncommon, but extremely high doses (+3000mg) may cause risks. Our recommended dosages are always safely within clinical guidelines.
Is it a problem if some nutrients are over 100% NRV?
No, this is often intentional and safe. During pregnancy, requirements for certain nutrients increase, and standard NRVs do not always reflect optimal pregnancy needs. Some nutrients are therefore included above 100% to help ensure adequate intake, particularly where absorption varies, dietary intake is inconsistent, or requirements are higher. All levels used in prenatal supplements are set within established safe limits.
It’s also worth noting, NRVs are set well below the upper safe limits. This means that consuming more than 100% of the NRV is typically still well within safe, tolerable levels.
Should every nutrient aim for 100% NRV?
Not necessarily. Nutrients are included at different levels depending on how much is typically obtained from food, how well the body absorbs the nutrient, and how requirements change during pregnancy. Some nutrients are intentionally below 100% because diet usually provides the remainder, while others are higher to help ensure adequate intake.
Can I get too much if I eat well and take supplements?
Prenatal supplements are formulated to remain within safe limits when combined with a normal, balanced diet. However, you should avoid taking additional supplements containing the same nutrients unless advised by a healthcare professional.
Does my diet still matter if I’m taking a supplement?
Yes. Supplements are designed to support, not replace, a healthy diet. A balanced diet provides additional vitamins, minerals, fibre, protein, and other beneficial nutrients not found in supplements. Prenatal supplements help fill common nutritional gaps and provide consistency when dietary intake varies.
Why is folate 200% NRV?
Folate requirements increase significantly during pregnancy as it supports normal foetal development. The standard NRV is lower than the amount commonly recommended in pregnancy guidelines, so providing 400µg helps ensure women meet recommended intake even if dietary intake varies.
Why is Vitamin D shown as 1000% NRV?
The NRV for vitamin D is based on preventing deficiency in the general adult population, rather than optimising levels during pregnancy. Many women in the UK have low vitamin D levels, especially during autumn and winter. A higher amount helps support immune function, bone health for mother and baby, and maintaining healthy vitamin D status throughout pregnancy, while remaining within recognised safe intake levels.

At-home blood testing and analysis
Is the at-home blood test safe?
Yes, our NurtureKit blood tests are MHRA-registered in vitro diagnostic medical devices (IVD), CE-marked, and meet ISO 13485 safety standards. They offer a safe, low-invasive way to monitor your Vitamin D and DHA levels at home.
How accurate are the blood test results?
Our laboratory is accredited and adheres to the ISO 17025 international standard for medical labs. We employ cutting-edge technology, such as liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, ensuring precise results comparable to venous blood tests.
How are my blood test results used?
Your results allow us to tailor your supplementation, ensuring you're getting the right amount of nutrients, such as Vitamin D and DHA. This tailored approach helps optimise your health and your baby’s development throughout pregnancy.
Why is there a colour on my sample collection card?
This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about, all of our blood tests have a specialist treatment which helps protect your sample and prevent it from oxidising while on route to the lab.
How do the at-home blood tests work?
The NurtureKit includes an easy-to-use at-home blood test for tracking your DHA levels. You collect a few drops of blood using a dried blood spot (DBS) sample and send it back to our lab for analysis. Based on the results, we adjust your supplement dosage to meet your unique nutritional needs.
How often should I take the blood tests?
Ideally, we recommend testing monthly or every other month, as your needs — and your baby’s — can change rapidly during pregnancy. However, we understand that may not always be practical. At a minimum, we suggest using the two free blood tests included with your subscription: one during your first month and another at the start of your third trimester. This helps us track your levels and tailor your supplements as your pregnancy progresses.
What should I do if my results indicate a deficiency?
Firstly, don’t panic! It’s completely normal to see deficiencies, especially during pregnancy. The good news is, based on your results, we can recommend a supplement plan to help fill those gaps and support a healthy, happy pregnancy.
What happens if my blood sample is damaged or insufficient?
If your sample is damaged, contaminated, or contains an insufficient amount of blood for testing, we will notify you promptly. In such cases, we can provide guidance on next steps, including sending you a replacement NurtureKit® at no extra cost.
Are NurtureKit® tests suitable for all pregnancy stages?
Yes, our tests are designed to provide accurate insights at every stage of pregnancy. Whether you're in your first trimester or nearing delivery, our laboratory analyses key nutrient levels to help you monitor and adjust as needed.
