Testing is a core principle of Nurture®

Professor Mark Johnson, Nurture founder & Consultant Obstetrician:

When you sign up for Nurture, we first assess your diet by questionnaire then offer a blood test to measure your levels of essential fatty acids and vitamin D. Based on this, we create a tailored supplement plan. After about 20 weeks, we recheck your blood levels to ensure they’re at the correct balance. If necessary, we’ll adjust the dosage. This personalised approach helps optimise the health of mum and baby throughout pregnancy.

    DHA results

DHA plays a vital role in pregnancy, but many mums don’t get enough through diet alone. Our simple at-home test helps you track your DHA levels and ensure you’re getting the right support for you and your baby.

    Vitamin D results

Vitamin D is essential for pregnancy health, yet many women have low levels. Our gentle at-home test helps you check your Vitamin D status and make sure you’re getting the support you need.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How accurate are the blood test results?

Our laboratory is accredited and adheres to the ISO 15189 international standard for medical labs. We employ cutting-edge technology, such as liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, ensuring precise results comparable to venous blood tests.

How are my blood test results used?

Your results allow us to tailor your supplementation, ensuring you're getting the right amount of nutrients, such as Vitamin D and Omega-3. This tailored approach helps optimise your health and your baby’s development throughout pregnancy.

How do the at-home blood tests work?

The NurtureKit® includes an easy-to-use at-home blood test for tracking your Omega-3 levels. You collect a few drops of blood using a dried blood spot (DBS) sample and send it back to our lab for analysis. Based on the results, we adjust your supplement dosage to meet your unique nutritional needs.

Why is there a colour on my sample collection card?

This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about, all of our blood tests have a specialist treatment which helps protect your sample and prevent it from oxidising while on route to the lab.

How often should I take the blood tests?

Ideally, we recommend testing monthly or every other month, as your needs — and your baby’s — can change rapidly during pregnancy. However, we understand that may not always be practical. At a minimum, we suggest using the two free blood tests included with your subscription: one during your first month and another at the start of your third trimester. This helps us track your levels and tailor your supplements as your pregnancy progresses.

What should I do if my results indicate a deficiency?

Firstly, don’t panic! It’s completely normal to see deficiencies, especially during pregnancy. The good news is, based on your results, we can recommend a supplement plan to help fill those gaps and support a healthy, happy pregnancy.

Always evidence based. Always personal.
