Maternal seafood consumption in pregnancy and neurodevelopmental outcomes in childhood

19 Feb 2025

This study investigated how much seafood pregnant women ate and how it affected their children's brain development. Researchers found that children whose mothers ate more than 340 grams of seafood per week during pregnancy had better verbal intelligence and social skills compared to those whose mothers ate less or no seafood.

The study suggests that eating more than the previously recommended limit of 340 grams per week may benefit a child's development.
